What to Expect
You will be touring Franklin D. Roosevelt's presidential yacht, a floating and fully operating museum and National Historic Landmark. You will see all parts of the ship including the presidential stateroom, dining room, galleys, crews quarters, guest quarters, wheelhouse, engine room and fantail area where FDR spent much of his time while aboard. He used the ship for leisure time and official business from 1936 to 1945, welcoming aboard high level government officials, aides, the King and Queen of England and other European royalty. FDR used Potomac for two famous operations to meet up with larger ocean-going Naval ships that would take him to secret meetings with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill during World War II to discuss the Atlantic Charter and later the D-Day Landings.
