What to Expect
Art Tours MKE Near West Side Mural Tour brings alive the living history of the vibrant art scene that exists just west of downtown. The tour begins at the recently redeveloped C27 Building with complimentary food and beverage at Fruition Cafe and an opportunity to engage in a Maker’s Space art activity.
As the tour begins, your guide will take you through the heart of the Near West Side and fill you in on its inspiring backstory. We will stop at many of the murals on Vliet Street and take a deep dive on the techniques used in their making, on the artists who created them, and discuss the deeper meaning of the art pieces, enhancing your appreciation and deepening your enjoyment.
The tour will stop at The Art Intersection Project’s stunning outdoor sculpture and mural garden and conclude at the 1920s Uplifting Mansion Garden Gallery where guests will enjoy a studio visit with the current Artist In Residence.
Throughout the tour participants will be informed of the exceptional diversity of the Near West Side, see historically significant architecture, and learn about ongoing art initiatives. The tour is not scripted, so each of our guides brings some individual perspective to their tours.You are welcome to comment and ask questions and will have many opportunities to take pictures.
