About

Red Mountain is a bit of a misnomer, as it is neither red nor a mountain, but it is a lovely area to explore. It is Washington’s hottest AVA and smallest at only 2,382 acres. The warm weather tends to produce full-bodied, dark wines with firm tannins. It is known for producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. There are about 15 wineries to visit in this area, and many others source their grapes from these vineyards.

The route begins along the Yakima River, where you might catch a glimpse of eagles or other birds. Then you will enjoy beautiful tasting rooms and expansive views of the valley. This is our shortest route, at about 10 miles, and provides sweeping vistas of the valley. It has a one-mile stretch that is on a lightly traveled highway; however, we have ridden it many times and feel that it is entirely safe.

Lunch is included with your tour. We will have lunch at our second stop of the day. For tours on Friday through Sunday, lunch will be provided by the Vineyard Grill. For tours on Thursday or Monday, we will pick up lunch before your tour from Graze. You will have a chance to choose your lunch selection from Graze before your tour date. What to bring/wear/consider:

  • Please dress for the weather and consider that you will be riding a bike. Dresses or skirts can make riding tricky and are, therefore, discouraged.
  • Please eat a substantial breakfast. Tasting on an empty stomach is never a good idea.
  • Don’t forget sunscreen.
  • Sneakers are recommended; flat-soled, closed-toe shoes are required.
  • Water! It can be very hot out on the road. We will provide water and water bottles. Hydration is critical!
  • Mask

What to leave at home:

  • Your guide will be able to carry your personal belongings, but there is limited space on a bike.
  • Please just bring what you need. Leave large purses at home.
  • We also love our pets, but unfortunately, we cannot accommodate them on our tours, and they are not allowed at many of our stops.
