What to Expect
Explore Anderson House and the museum of the American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati on a visit to this National Historic Landmark. Guided tours of the first and second floors of the 1905 mansion reveal the history of the Society of the Cincinnati, the significance of the American Revolution, and the lives and collections of the home’s first owners, Larz and Isabel Anderson. Visitors can also view the changing exhibition gallery on their own.
Anderson House was completed in 1905 for Larz and Isabel Anderson, a wealthy couple who devoted their lives to public service, travel, entertaining, collecting, and philanthropy. Their interests and activities are reflected in the mansion, where much of the couple’s art collection and furnishings are still on display amidst the outstanding original architectural features. Today, Anderson House is the home of the Society of the Cincinnati and its American Revolution Institute, which works here to advance its historical mission to promote understanding and appreciation of the American Revolution and its legacy. Select art and artifacts of the Revolutionary War and the Society of the Cincinnati are also displayed in Anderson House and are featured in the changing exhibition gallery, which presents one exhibition per year exploring an aspect of the American Revolution and its legacy.
