Day trip to Northern Virginia: Luray, Harpers Ferry, Winery

We begin the day with a brief overview of the day at the iconic US Navy Memorial Plaza. Then relax in a climate-controlled vehicle with complimentary bottled water and light snacks onboard as you make your way to Harpers Ferry.

Upon arrival, tour the lower historic town alongside a certified private historian (45 minutes). Uncover the dramatic stories of John Brown’s Raid, civil war stories, and the wonderfully preserved historic town. After this you can walk on the suspended foot-bridge over the confluence of Potomac and Shenandoah rivers, amidst a spectacular and scenic mountain view. You will still have some free time here to browse the little local shops and restaurants.

Next, we head to the scenic Skyline Drive (entry pass included). We will stop at a scenic overlook where you can enjoy a peaceful sit-down meal, featuring a regional American cuisine amidst crisp mountain air and a panoramic view of the Shenandoah. We can stop at a couple of panoramic overlooks so you can take some nice pictures.

After lunch, we will make our way to Luray Caverns. Descend step-free into cathedral-sized underground chambers. Witness massive stone columns, perfectly reflective mirror pools, and the hauntingly beautiful music of the Great Stalacpipe Organ on an audio-guided walking tour. Optionally after the tour browse through the Car and Carriage Museum featuring 75 iconic vehicles from the 18th and 19th century (included in the ticket).

Then head to Loudoun County Wine Country for a premium, wine-tasting experience. Sample award-winning Virginia varietals inside a gorgeous countryside estate in the richest county in America. We conclude the day driving across beautiful vineyards, rolling horse farms and pastoral hills on our way back to Washington DC.
