During Elk fest 2026 Breaks Park Southern Gap will offer three Elk Tours to our guests. One Friday morning, Friday evening and Saturday morning. There are only 25 seats available per tour. This is a shorter elk tour than our tours offered in the fall and spring with no meal provided.

Experience the rutting season with spectacular elk gatherings, resonant bugling calls, and captivating territorial battles. Later tours showcase the complete magnificence of Central Appalachia's autumn season.
Highlights:
100% success rate in spotting elk and other wildlife.
Encounter whitetail deer, wild turkey, and occasional black bears.
Preparation:
Wear long pants and earth-colored clothing.
Bring your own cameras/binoculars.
Avoid strong scents as elk have a keen sense of smell.
Handicapped Accommodations:
- Guests needing handicapped accommodations: You can follow in your vehicle if you can't ride the tour bus. Ensure it has good ground clearance for gravel and dirt roads, as low-clearance vehicles may scrape. The park isn't responsible for any vehicle damage in the restoration zone.
