St. Paul's Cathedral Daily Guided Tour
St. Paul’s Cathedral — Daily Docent-Led Guided Tour
What to Expect
St. Paul’s Cathedral’s daily Docent Highlights Tour is a welcoming, one-hour walk through one of Minnesota’s most recognizable landmarks, designed to illuminate the Cathedral’s history, sacred art, and civic significance through engaging storytelling and thoughtful interpretation.
As you step inside, the Cathedral’s Beaux-Arts design—modeled on the great churches of France—sets the tone immediately: rounded arches and domes, a balanced cross-shaped plan, and clean, symmetrical lines that draw your eye toward the heart of the sanctuary. Docents help guests notice how decorative elements are intentionally placed around key focal points—especially the entrances and the dome—so the building’s beauty feels both grand and purposeful.
A true highlight for many visitors is the remarkable semicircle of intimate chapels behind the sanctuary known as the “Shrines of Nations.” These chapels were conceived to reflect and honor the immigrant communities that helped build and sustain the Cathedral and the region—an especially moving moment that connects monumental architecture to real human stories and lived faith.
Tours are typically offered Monday–Friday at 1:00 PM (with exceptions for holy days, civil holidays, and scheduled liturgical events). Because the Cathedral is an active place of worship, the route or pacing may occasionally adjust to respect services and special events.
