Texas City Dike
About
Join us for a fun morning of exploration as we share one of our favorite birding hotspots with you - the Texas City Dike! Our tagalong tour includes two options:
- tagalong: participants travel caravan style in their own cars from one location to the next
- ridealong: participants ride with us in our vehicle throughout the tour (limit 4)
We will travel down the dike and back, birding at a leisurely pace and stopping frequently along the way to identify and observe any bird species we encounter. We'll continue the tour along Skyline Drive to Moses Lake and then return to our starting point.
Although our focus will be on birds, we'll also share interesting tidbits about other wildlife and plants we see along the way as well. Activity level will generally be easy to moderate at each stop. We recommend that participants dress in layers to accommodate any changes in the weather, and bring binoculars and/or camera, snacks, and water to stay hydrated. We'll provide a scope, and participants may bring their own if they like.
Younger children interested in birding may join us. (Please let us know in advance.) No dogs, please!
We generally will not cancel due to rain unless it is expected to be heavy or if the location is too wet to allow event to continue. If we do decide to cancel, we will notify registrants the day prior to the event if at all possible.
