What to Expect
What Happens During Your Llama Farm Visit!
Your adventure begins the moment you arrive at the farm. After checking in, you' ll hop aboard the Llamazine, our custom farm transport, and enjoy a scenic ride through the property while taking in breathtaking views of the Great Smoky Mountains.
Your first stop is our boys or herdsire barn where you will meet our "daddy" llamas and learn about their unique personalities, how they're cared for, and what makes each one special.
Remember their names as you will meet their babies later on the tour. Next, you'll arrive at our adult female barn. Depending on the season, you may even see expectant mothers , as many of our babies called crias arrive during the spring and fall. We have had live births during tours in the past. You never know when that could happen!
The tour then takes you on a trip around the farm entering into the pastures of the mommas nursing cries, and the weaned crias & juvenile llamas (ages 6 months to 2 years).
Of course, there will be plenty of opportunities to interact with the llamas as you complete the Llamazine ride back at the pavilion. You'll have time to pet them, ask questions, and take plenty of photos while getting up close with these gentle, curious animals. But first, you will see a demonstration of spinning the fiber by our own fiber artist, Ms. Carolyn. She will tell you about how she shears the llamas and turns raw fiber into yarn to make scarfs, hats, & socks.
Throughout the tour, you'll also learn about llama history, their role on farms, the unique qualities of their fiber, and how these incredible animals have partnered with people for centuries.
