About

The Adams Museum displays some of the Black Hills’ greatest treasures, including Potato Creek Johnny’s gold nugget, the City of Deadwood's Wild Bill Hickok Collection, the first locomotive in the Black Hills, the mysterious Thoen Stone record of the Ezra Kind party’s discovery of gold in the Hills in the 1830s, interactive exhibits, and a rare one-of-a-kind plesiosaur (marine reptile).

The Days of '76 Museum displays a remarkable collection of pioneer, cowboy, and American Indian artifacts in two unique galleries. The historic firearms exhibit presents nearly 100 rifles and includes numerous examples of rare guns. The connection between Buffalo Bill Cody, his Wild West Show, and Deadwood are highlighted as Cody’s show was the inspiration for the first Days of '76 Celebration. Over 50 wagons, buggies, carriages, and stagecoaches on display highlight the important role early frontier transportation played in the settling of Deadwood.
