Pony Rides

Children who weigh less than 75 pounds are invited to enjoy a ride on one of our retired rodeo horses. These horses have worked cows in the Rocky Mountains, chased cans (barrel raced) throughout the Rio Grande River Valley, supported local communities of New Mexico in parades, and helped many people learn how to safely ride horses. They are now retired from heavy riding use, being more than 25 years old, and having ailments that interfere with their enjoyment of more strenuous activity. They love people and enjoy giving rides to children, who they sense always come away happier for the opportunity. Each pony ride goes through the lawns and gardens of BirdHaven Ranch, with great views of the Northern Narragansett Bay and Prudence Island. This is one participant at a time. Children should be able to sit without help, and parents are encouraged to walk along if desired.
