What to Expect
A Cultural Dive Into Puerto Rico’s Heritage
Travel back in time when you visit the historical Puerto Rican city of Loiza! This private tour introduces guests to the island’s African roots and beautiful ecology. You might even get to learn a bomba dance or two!
Your experience begins with a leisurely drive along the Piñones coast. During the ride, your certified tour guide will share interesting tidbits and historical facts about the region. As you venture further into Loiza, you’ll get to view the artistic creations of local plastic artists Samuel Lind and the Ayala Family. You will even be given a personal tour led by the resident artist himself!
After your exploration of the island’s art scene, you’ll participate in a bomba class at a private "batey" on the beach. Bomba is one of Puerto Rico’s traditional musical styles and is known for its distinctive rhythms and sensual dance movements. The Bomba style emphasizes the relationship between dancers, percussionists, and singers, which has made it an important part of Puerto Rican communities for generations.
Finish your excursion with a taste of Loiza’s unique gastronomic delicacies. Sample some of Piñones’ famous local fritters (you’ll regret not trying the ‘alcapurria’ and ‘bacalaito’) and seafood salads.
