The SSI Perfect Buoyancy specialty certification is designed to help divers refine one of the most essential skills in scuba diving: precise control of buoyancy. Often considered the mark of a skilled diver, good buoyancy allows you to hover effortlessly, conserve air, and move gracefully underwater without disturbing marine life or the environment.

In this course, divers learn how to achieve and maintain neutral buoyancy in a variety of situations. Training focuses on proper weighting, breath control, body positioning, and efficient finning techniques. You’ll practice hovering in different positions, making controlled ascents and descents, and adjusting your buoyancy using both your breathing and your buoyancy compensator device (BCD).

Beyond improving comfort and confidence, mastering buoyancy has practical benefits.
