Nitrox

The SSI Enriched Air Nitrox Specialty certification is designed to give divers the knowledge and skills to safely use breathing gases with a higher percentage of oxygen than standard air. By reducing the nitrogen content in the mix, divers can extend their no-decompression limits, shorten surface intervals, and potentially reduce fatigue after dives.

In this course, you’ll learn the science behind nitrox, including how oxygen exposure affects the body, how to calculate maximum operating depths, and how to manage oxygen limits safely. The program also teaches you how to analyze tank contents, label cylinders correctly, and plan dives using enriched air mixtures—typically up to 40% oxygen.

By the end of the certification, you’ll be qualified to plan and execute dives using enriched air nitrox, opening up more flexibility and efficiency in your dive profiles—especially useful for repetitive diving and liveaboard trips.
