The Carriage Museum Rental

The Carriage Museum showcases a collection of horse-drawn carriages and sleighs in partnership with the Chester County History Center. It makes a great space for smaller receptions and meetings. There is also a smaller meeting room that can accommodate up to 16 people for classes, retreats or Board meetings.

Exhibit Floor: 70’ long x 35’ wide (2,450 sq ft) with 12’ x 18’ (216 sq ft) adjoining exhibit space.
Available floor space: 60’ long x 14’ wide (840 sq ft)*
Includes use of approx. 60 chairs & 6 tables, kitchen and Board Room. 4 G LTE cellular WIFI is available upon request (must be requested with contract).
Capacity: 50 people for a sit-down meal; 50 – 75 for auditorium-style seating; 100 for standing reception.

Rate: Weekdays (9 am – 5 pm) $100/hour including set-up and take-down time or $750/day (9 am – 5 pm). Events extending after 5pm on weekdays are an additional $150/hour.
Weekends or Weekdays after 5 pm: $150/hour including set-up and take-down time

Security Deposit (nonrefundable) of $100.00 due with signed contract. The security deposit will be applied to the payment of the rental.
* During November and December, Historic Sugartown displays a large Christmas tree at the far end of the Carriage Museum. During these months, the available sq footage is 742 sq ft (53’ x 14’)

Site Rental Guidelines

Stewardship of the historic landscape, buildings, and the museum collections is central to the mission of Historic Sugartown. All proposed uses should be consistent with the preservation of the property and its buildings. Events should not detract from the public image of the property and must be in accordance with Historic Sugartown’s guidelines. By renting Historic Sugartown for an event you agree to uphold the integrity of the historic place, its buildings, landscapes, collections, and history. Historic Sugartown staff reserves all rights to determine the suitability of an event and the Executive Director makes all final decisions on rental contracts.

General Guidelines

• Designated rental times include set-up and break down.
• A Historic Sugartown staff member will be on-site throughout the event rental to ensure the stewardship of the historic property and its collections, as well as public safety. The staff member also serves as a liaison for Historic Sugartown.
• On-site areas designated for set-up, program, ceremony, seating, music, dancing etc. must be approved by Historic Sugartown’s staff.
• Decorations must be approved by a Historic Sugartown staff member. The use of glue, nails, screws, and/or staples are strictly prohibited on any of our historic buildings or landscapes.
• Site prohibitions include, but are not limited to: pets, open flames, fireworks, smoking, combustible materials, glitter, tinsel, confetti, rice, silly string, illegal substances and weapons.

Site Conditions

• Renter is responsible for cleaning up after an event, leaving the site in the same condition.
• This includes cleaning, putting away any additional chairs and tables, sweeping areas used, and cleaning out the sink in the kitchen.
• All trash must be collected from the building, contained, and placed in the designated area.
• All tents, chairs, tables, dinnerware, flatware, flowers, etc. are the sole responsibility of the renter and caterer, unless otherwise arranged in advance with HSI. Delivery and pick-up dates and times are to be scheduled with Historic Sugartown staff. 48 hours advance notice is required, as there is not always someone on-site to assist you.

Insurance requirements:

Must provide a certificate of insurance that contains:
- Minimum of $1,000,000 General Liability Insurance
- Historic Sugartown, Inc. listed as additional insured.
