Totally Teapots: Wednesday Evenings

This class takes place at Black Hound Clay Studio West: 715 South 50th Street, West Philadelphia.

In this intermediate/advanced handbuilding class, students will learn how to make functional
teapots using pinch, coil, and slab techniques. This class puts an emphasis on honing
techniques for making spouts, handles, and lids, and how these elements harmonize with the
teapot body. We will discuss the history of teapots and tea culture, and we will drink a lot of tea!
Students will build upon surface design techniques such as stamping/textures, sgraffito, and
underglaze painting to enhance their creative voice. Traditional glazing techniques will also be
covered to add color and longevity to your vessels!

Prerequisite: All students registering for this class should have taken at least one beginning-level handbuilding class (with us or elsewhere).

First installment payment of 50%: upon registration
Second installment payment of 50%: January 4, 2027

If you register on or after December 20, 2026, you must pay in full.
