Queer Clay: Monday Evenings
What to Expect
This class takes place at Black Hound Clay Studio West: 715 South 50th Street, West Philadelphia.
Instructor: Miranda Blas
What does it mean to be a Queer ceramicist/potter? How does one’s Queer identity affect one’s artwork?
Queer Clay will grapple with these questions as we engage with Handbuilding ceramics. We will be learning about queer ceramic artists, taking inspiration from their works. Students will learn fundamental Handbuilding techniques, including soft and hard slab, coil, pinch, solid sculpting, and more.
This class will also explore the idea of “queering” ceramic processes by breaking traditional rules and creating outside the box. This class is designed for students on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, but allies are also welcome! Created and taught by Miranda, a queer ceramic artist.
Prerequisite: No experience necessary.
