Erie Community Boating Rentals

Join our membership-based sailing and paddling community!

What to Expect

Erie Community Boating (ECB) is a membership-based sailing and paddling program built to make recreational boating more accessible to our entire community. It’s designed to bring people from all backgrounds together to learn, connect, and experience the joy of being on the water.

Owning your own boat means worrying about maintenance, insurance, docking fees, winter storage, and more. With an Erie Community Boating membership, you just show up and get on the water — let us take care of the rest! Your membership gives you access to reserve sailboats, kayaks, and canoes from our fleet for use on Presque Isle Bay, with the chance to sail or paddle up to six days a week throughout the summer.

The Erie Community Boating program is a membership-based sailing program that provides qualified members with access to reserve and operate community sailing vessels during designated open sail times.

An active monthly membership is required to reserve boats through the booking system.

Before operating a vessel independently for the first time, all participants must successfully complete a scheduled skills check and orientation with a Bayfront Maritime Center (BMC) team member. This process helps ensure that members are confident, capable, and prepared to safely operate a sailboat without an instructor onboard.

Once approved, members may reserve available boats during open sailing sessions using their Member ID.

BMC reserves the right to modify or cancel reservations, sailing sessions, or vessel availability due to weather, water conditions, staffing, equipment issues, or other safety concerns.

If you are unsure whether you are ready for a skills check, we encourage you to explore our Learn-to-Sail and refresher courses, which are designed to help sailors build confidence and foundational skills in a supportive environment.
