Guests put in and take out at the same location for this trip, traveling upriver from the Saxapahaw Lake Paddle Access dock, exploring the impounded flatwater above Saxapahaw dam, and returning to the dock at the end of their reserved trip time. Guests are free to swim, fish, birdwatch, and picnic in their boats at their own leisure before returning.

Saxapahaw Lake is an ideal trip for families and perfect for beginner paddlers, with the scenery of the river but the tranquility of a lake. There is no noticeable current, no motor boats, no rocks in the river bed, and guests can return whenever they need to!

Our staff will give all guests a safety briefing, and can offer basic paddling instruction and answer any questions about the lake. We also help guests in and out of their boats, making this trip reasonably accessible even for guests with mobility challenges!

An hour and a half is just enough time to paddle up and down the length of Saxapahaw Lake comfortably, or to beeline straight for your favorite features, like the sandbar, the jump rock, or goose island. A great choice for families with young children or dogs who might not be up for a longer paddle.

We are now renting our Voyageur canoe on weekends at Saxapahaw Lake! This 25-foot canoe seats up to 10 paddlers and has ample storage room for coolers and other items. Perfect for team-building, birthday parties, weddings, and family outings with lots of young children!
