What to Expect

Learn and make!

Create your own block print inspired by the interior designs, textiles, and decorative wall paintings of Thomas Cole's 19th-century home. Explore the patterns the artist selected for his home decor on a special tour of the historic Main House, including his hand-painted wall borders, then head over to the Storehouse to make your own linocut and 19th-century-inspired band box with your custom design. All materials are included.

This workshop will take place in the historic Storehouse adjoining Thomas Cole’s original painting studio. All ages welcome; some sharp tools will be used. Participants are encouraged to bring lunch; coffee, tea, and snacks are available for purchase in the Cole Center.

About Second Saturdays: The Second Saturdays series presents monthly making activities inspired by the themes of the Thomas Cole Site’s historic property and special exhibitions on view.

Restrictions

Accessibility: The first floor of the Main House is wheelchair accessible by an elevator lift to bypass the 11 steps leading up to the first-floor porch. The second floor of the Main House is only accessed by two flights of stairs. The Cole Center, Storehouse, and 1846 New Studio are all wheelchair accessible. The parking lot is asphalt and includes a number of accessible spaces. The walking paths are loose gravel.

Animal Policy: Pets are welcome on the grounds, though they must be leashed during our open hours and may not be left unattended at any time. Pets may not enter the buildings or go onto the porch of the Main House. Service animals are welcome.
