What to Expect

This tour looks at 15 pieces of art in the final residence of Mary Baker Eddy—many of which were gifts from grateful students of Christian Science. The art in her house reflected her own thoughts and feelings and documented significant events in her history. In addition to learning something about the artist, the medium, and how the various pieces came to be in this house, guides will share some of the deeper meaning behind the art, and the way in which Mrs. Eddy viewed such works as contributing to the atmosphere of her home.

Travel through the first and second floors of a meticulously restored18,000-square-foot Victorian house and learn how Mary Baker Eddy curated the artwork in her home to uplift and inspire.

If you wish to explore the carriage house, the formal garden, or our interactive exhibit about Mrs. Eddy's achievements on the terrace level, we encourage you to visit these areas before or after your guided tour.

Accessibility

The main house is accessible. The tour involves standing, walking, some climbing of stairs, and only limited opportunity for sitting. An elevator is available for those needing it, as are a few folding chairs in some locations. If you will use a wheelchair or will be accompanied by a service animal, please indicate this when you purchase tickets. Longyear provides wheelchairs for use in the house. (Wheelchairs brought by visitors are only permissible in the exhibit space in the Visitor Center.)
