All Ages • 3 Days • Follows ASA 101
What to Expect
Open up a new world of excitement and adventure!
Duration
3 Days: 9am-5pm each day
Each day consists of a morning lecture, lunch break, followed by at least four hours of hands-on sailing!
Experience Level:
Prerequisite: ASA 101 - Basic Keelboat (ASA 102 does not exist anymore)
About
Learn to skipper a sloop-rigged auxiliary powered 25'-35' keelboat by day in moderate winds and sea conditions. Learn cruising sailboat terminology, basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather, safety and seamanship.
ASA 103 Basic Cruising picks up where ASA 101 left off and is designed to transfer the basic sailing skills you have learned on our smaller keelboat and transfer them to a larger and heavier sailboat, our Beneteau First 36.7.
Each day begins with a couple hours of lecture in the classroom followed by a lunch break and then at least 4 hours sailing around Boston Harbor and surrounding islands on our cruising sailboat. On the water, we practice many of the skills you have learned in ASA 101 like Crew Overboard Recovery and Heaving to, focusing on applying them to a larger and heavier boat. We also spend an entire afternoon practicing docking!
