What to Expect
Touring Herman Melville's former home is an exciting experience for literature enthusiasts and history buffs alike. The author of the iconic novel "Moby Dick" lived in the home for over 13 years, and visitors can see the room where he wrote some of his most famous works. Additionally, the house itself is a beautiful example of mid-18th century architecture and provides a glimpse into the daily life of an American literary giant.
Includes
Currently, the Berkshire County Historical Society operates Arrowhead as an historic house museum, giving tours of the home in which Herman Melville produced some of his greatest work. It also serves as the headquarters of BCHS, housing offices and a vast collection and archives.
The grounds at Arrowhead are open and free to the public from dawn to dusk. Feel free to walk our two small trails and/or bring a picnic lunch.
