Leave the hustle and bustle behind as you step into the pasture and experience what many of our guests call "Alpaca Magic." Their calm, curious nature creates a peaceful atmosphere that's perfect for relaxing, learning, and making lasting memories. Best of all, you'll be right in the field with the alpacas—not watching from behind a fence—giving you plenty of opportunities to interact, ask questions, and take photos.

After spending time with the herd, your adventure continues to Painted Sky Fiber Mill, Maryland's only full-service fiber mill. From our fiber mill showroom, you'll follow the fascinating journey of alpaca fleece as it's transformed into beautiful yarns, rovings, batts, and rug yarns. Through large viewing windows, you'll see our production equipment while your guide explains each step of the process and how raw fleece becomes the luxurious fiber products found in our Gift Shop.

Every tour is led by knowledgeable guides who are passionate about alpacas and fiber arts, making this a unique educational experience for animal lovers, crafters, families, and curious visitors alike.

• Enjoy a hands-on experience meeting our friendly alpacas while learning about their care, personalities, and luxurious fiber. Then visit our working fiber mill showroom to discover how raw alpaca fleece is transformed into beautiful yarns, rovings, batts, and rug yarns.

• Toddlers and infants (ages 0–2) are welcome and attend free.

• In the event of inclement weather, the alpaca portion of the tour will be held indoors in the barn.

• Painted Sky is a working alpaca farm and fiber mill and does not have public restrooms. We recommend stopping at the Royal Farms convenience store just down the road before arriving.

What to Bring

• Closed-toe shoes are required. Please wear sneakers, hiking shoes, or boots. Open-toed sandals, flip-flops, and high heels are not permitted for your safety while walking around the farm.
