About
Our fleet of sea kayaks and SUPs are perfect for experienced paddlers interested in exploring the waterfront of Portland's East End or venturing to the inner islands of Portland harbor.
However, because the open waters near our site can have strong currents, cold waters and busy boat traffic, we require anyone renting our kayaks (and SUPs) to stay within a designated “Shore Zone” unless they have demonstrated proficiency at certain skills, including capsize recovery skills for kayakers. The Shore Zone is a wide arc around our home base at East End Beach and offers great views and even a small island. Paddling the entire Shore Zone takes 1-2 hours, depending on your pace and conditions.
SKILLS REQUIRED FOR PADDLING TO THE ISLANDS
We require that anyone renting our kayaks stay within a designated "Shore Zone" unless someone in their group is a skilled kayaker with experience rescuing a capsized kayak. That means that you will not be able to paddle to the nearby islands (including Fort Gorges) if someone in your group does not know how to re-enter a kayak after a capsize. Anyone who paddles onto the exposed waters of Casco Bay without this knowledge (or someone else who has that knowledge) is taking an extremely high risk. Casco Bay is a potentially dangerous environment due to its very cold waters, busy boat traffic and exposure to the conditions of the Atlantic Ocean (including sudden fog and strong winds). It can be extremely difficult to re-enter a kayak in cold and turbulent water.

Cancellation Policy
If you cancel one of our regularly-scheduled tours or lessons, or a rental booking…
- More than 48 hours in advance: You will receive a full refund.
- Between 2 hours and 48 hours in advance: You will receive a 50% refund.
- Less than 2 hours in advance: You will not receive a refund, and we cannot apply any amount paid to booking on another date.
If you need to reduce the number of people in your group within 48 hours of your booking we will reduce your total booking amount by 50% of the cost of each person that is being removed from the booking.
WEATHER
We will offer the option of a full refund if we decide to cancel your booking due to weather conditions. We usually do not cancel tours due to overcast skies, cool temperatures or scattered showers, but we do cancel when winds are too strong, when there is steady, heavy rain, or when sustained thunderstorms appear likely.
Please keep in mind that the weather along the Maine coast is unpredictable and quick-to-change. Forecasts made several days in advance are very frequently inaccurate, and it is very common for a single summer day to include several hours of ideal conditions and several hours of very poor conditions.
