Three-Day Bicycle Rental (Non-Electric)

Whether you’re heading out on a two-wheeled sightseeing excursion or you just don’t want to worry about beach parking, we’ve got the bikes for you. At Coastal Maine Outdoors we’re proud to offer the area’s largest selection of rental bicycles for the whole family.

All our bikes are inspected regularly and maintained to the highest standards by our experienced mechanics. The tires are fully inflated, the chains are lubed, and the brakes are calibrated.

All bike rentals include:
- Helmet
- Bike lock
- Area map
- Local advice on where to ride, what to see, and what to do in the area.

If you need a basket for your belongings, we’ll make sure you get one. Drinks and sunscreen are available for purchase at pickup.

Choose your ride:

Bikes for Adults

• City-style cruisers, perfect for cycling beachside roads, downtown shopping expeditions, and relaxed exploration. Our cruiser bikes feature wide, cushy seats; step-through frames; multi-speed gearing to help get you over any hill (3, 7, or 8 speeds, depending on the model); handbrakes; and a comfortable, upright cycling position.
• Hybrid-style bikes, a versatile option for adventurous outings, energetic rides, and occasional off-roading (or beach cruising in sporty style). Our hybrid bikes feature mountain-bike style seats and handlebars; step-over frames; 8-speed gearing to take on any hill; and handbrakes.

Note: We do not currently rent racing-style road bikes (drop handlebars) or true mountain bikes. Our hybrid-style bikes are suitable for fitness riding or riding gravel paths.

Bikes for Kids

• 24-inch (wheel size) mountain bike style bikes with single- or 7-speed gearing (depending on the model) and handbrakes. Typically fits ages 10+.
• 20-inch bikes with BMX-syle handlebars, single-speed gearing, and handbrakes or coaster brakes (depending on the model). Typically fits ages 5 to 9.
• 16-inch bikes with BMX-style handlebars, single-speed gearing, and coaster brakes. Training wheels optional. Typically fits ages 4 to 6.

Add-ons: (Do not rent without a bike rental.)

• Child seats: Topeak Baby Seat II, compatible with our cruiser or hybrid adult bikes, suitable for children under 40 pounds
• Bike trailer for up to two children: Tow-behind trailer carries up to two children, maximum 40 pounds each.
• Tag-a-long bikes: Attaches to the seat post of our cruiser or hybrid adult bikes. Seats one child, ages 4 to 6.

PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING!

• This is a three-day (72-hour) rental. Click here for other rental periods.
• Please arrive as close to your pickup time as possible. If you arrive 30 minutes or later after your pickup time, we may rent your bike to someone else.
• Your rental period starts once you have your bike and our team member has finished the pickup procedure. Provided you arrive on time, we will not penalize you for the time it takes to check in, get fitted for a helmet, and receive instruction on your bike.
• You are expected to operate your bicycle safely and according to all the applicable state and local laws. Click here for an overview of safe riding practices and bike law in Maine. Do not ride on the sidewalk or against the direction of traffic. Stop at all red stoplights and stop signs.
• Keep in mind that most of the riding around Kennebunk and Kennebunkport is on the road, shared with cars, trucks, buses, and pedestrians. There are no coastal off-road bike paths in this area. That said, the traffic around town moves at slower speeds, some roads have shoulders to ride in, and the Kennebunks are known as bike-friendly communities. Our team members will be happy to recommend a safe and fun riding route for your family or group. (Read more about the local riding conditions on our website.)
• Helmets are required, by Maine law, for all riders under 16. They are highly recommended for everyone else. All bike rentals include a free helmet rental. We have all sizes.
• If it’s been a while since you’ve ridden a bike, our team members will be happy to review with you the proper operation of gears and brakes.

Afterhours Dropoff — Not a Problem!

Our shop closes at 6 p.m. throughout the summer season. If you plan to return your bike later than that (for example, if you pick your bike up at 4 p.m. and it’s due back at 8 p.m.), no worries. We will issue you a lock and show you where to lock up your bike and where to drop the key. Half-day rentals with afterhours dropoff must be back by the time we open in the morning.
