How to Train To Become a Registered Maine Guide

Becoming a Registered Maine Guide is not easy. If you wish to become a RMG this workshop will teach you about the training process. The exams are rigorous and detail oriented. If they weren't, the State of Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife would be putting many tourists from away and from our state, guests, sports, and families at risk. There are six specialties that require separate testing. Most Registered Maine Guides only test for one, and at most two. The specialties are: Hunting, Fishing, Recreation, Sea Kayaking, Tidewater Fishing and Whitewater Rafting. Whitewater Rafting can only be learned through an apprenticeship process.
