Dessert to Die Tour
Iconic Desserts, French Quarter Ghost Stories and no walking!
What to Expect
Dessert to Die Tour is an intimate dessert tasting and storytelling experience that takes place entirely on the historic grounds of one of the French Quarter’s oldest homes.
As you move through the candlelit courtyard and into the dining parlor, your host shares the fascinating history behind some of New Orleans' most iconic desserts, paired with chilling ghost stories, local folklore, and tales of the spirits said to still wander the city's oldest neighborhood.
Your tasting includes:
New Orleans Russian Cake – A beloved local specialty with a surprisingly mysterious past. Learn how this rich, layered trifle and a Russian Grand Duke became part of the origin story of Mardi Gras. The execution of the Russian imperial family and the plot and murder of the famous mystic charlatan Rasputin are all a part of the saga.
Bananas Foster Evangeline – Experience a delicious fusion of two Creole classics - Bananas Foster and homemade Creole Cream Cheese. Discover the story behind Bananas Foster's creation in the French Quarter and the history of Creole cream cheese, a lost food tradition brought back from the dead. And who was Evangeline anyway? We will tell her dramatic story of love and grief that embodies the struggles of the Acadian people’s journey to Louisiana.
King Cake – More than just a Mardi Gras treat, discover the centuries-old European roots of King Cake, and how it became synonymous with Carnival in New Orleans. Hear the tragic story of Frozen Charlotte - and how the hidden baby in the King Cake traces back to a grim 19th century folk tale.
Ossa Di Morto Cookies – Sample these beloved Italian “bones of the dead” cookies while exploring the legacy of Sicilian immigrants in New Orleans and their enduring influence on Creole cuisine. Discover the unsolved grisly murders of the Jazz Axeman serial killer who targeted Sicilian grocers, unless they had a jazz band playing.
Café Brûlot Diabolique (Devil's Flaming Coffee) Demonstration & Tasting – The grand finale is the dramatic preparation of New Orleans' legendary flaming coffee. Watch as citrus peels, spices, brandy, and coffee are transformed tableside in a tradition dating back more than a century, then enjoy a tasting of this iconic dessert drink.
Between each course, your host will share tales of mysterious deaths, restless spirits, and the haunted French Quarter. We end the evening with a candle ritual for the dead under the ancient live oaks with the true story of voodoo and murder that took place there.
Discover why so many believe the past never truly leaves this place.
