Coastal Restoration & Wetlands Tour
All ages - Nature-Based Tour near New Orleans
What to Expect
More than a sightseeing cruise, this immersive educational boat tour explores one of the most important environmental restoration stories in Louisiana. Journey through Bayou Bienvenue and the Central Wetlands while learning how the construction of the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet (MRGO) transformed thousands of acres of thriving cypress forest into the iconic "Ghost Swamp," and how the closure of MRGO, large-scale coastal restoration initiatives, reforestation projects, and modern flood protection systems are helping shape the future of southeast Louisiana. Along the way, you'll discover how engineering, science, public policy, and community advocacy continue to influence one of America's most ambitious ecosystem restoration efforts.
Designed for environmental organizations, universities, government agencies, corporate groups, educators, and curious travelers alike, this guided eco-tour examines the intersection of nature, history, industry, and resilience. Your expert guide discusses wetland loss, hurricane protection, fisheries, shipping, legislation, coastal communities, and the economic and cultural importance of Louisiana's disappearing coast. Guests gain a firsthand understanding of why healthy wetlands matter, not only for wildlife and fisheries, but also for flood protection, climate resilience, and the future of New Orleans. Whether you're visiting as part of a professional delegation or simply want a deeper understanding of coastal Louisiana, this is one of the region's most insightful and thought-provoking boat tours.
