Sunset and Full Moon Paddle at Hardy Lake
Have you ever wondered where the saying, "Once in a Blue moon" came from? August has two full moons!
What to Expect
Have you ever wondered where the saying, "Once in a Blue moon" came from? August has two full moons this year! That means that this one is a rare (about once every 3 years) and super moon, but most people call it a Blue Moon. Let's check it out!
Details:
We'll meet at the Sunnyside ramp at Hardy Lake state park near Scottsburg, Indiana. The moon will be big and bright and being this far away from the city, the stars will be abundant and brilliant. Once we get everyone together we'll have a little safety briefing and then we'll head out into the lake. We'll start out paddling towards the damn to watch the sunset and then we'll head to the east to watch the moonrise over the woods. We always get some amazing and DRAMATIC VIEWS in the time between the two. Once the moon has fully cleared the woods, it should start to get bright outside again.
Dinner:
If anyone is interested, I'm planning on meeting at Flipdaddy's in Scottsburg for dinner at 6:00pm. This is a burger joint with a great menu and lots of outside seating.
Bring a headlamp or some glow sticks to mark or decorate your boat. You are actually required to have marker lights, but the glow sticks cover it. I'll have a few if you forget yours.
BYOB:
If you are bringing your own board, and if you haven't already, you will be required to buy a non-motorized boat sticker for $5. This covers you at any INDNR managed ramps like Charlestown SP and Deam Lake, etc. for the year.
