About the Private Explorer

Spend six hours exploring Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park with your own private guide.

This longer private experience is designed for guests who want more trail time, deeper interpretation and a route planned around their group.

Private hikes welcome guests of all ages, but every participant must be able to complete the selected route safely.

Volcanic Landscapes

Depending on current conditions, the day may include Kīlauea Iki-area terrain, crater landscapes, steam features, native Hawaiian forest, lava fields and volcanic viewpoints.

Your guide brings the landscape to life through interpretation of geology, eruption history and native ecology.

Flexible Private Route

Your guide selects and adapts the route according to current volcanic activity, weather, air quality, park access, trail conditions, safety and your group’s interests and ability.

Specific trails, lava tubes and attractions are not guaranteed.

The standard private rate includes up to eight guests. Larger private groups may be accommodated by advance request for an additional charge.

Food and Gear

A gourmet trail lunch and light snacks are included. Breakfast is not included. Guests must bring sufficient water.

Backpacks, trekking poles and rain protection are provided.

Active Lava

Active lava viewing is never guaranteed.

Meeting and Transportation

This experience commonly begins near the Kīlauea Visitor Center. However, this is not a fixed or guaranteed meeting point.

The final meeting location may change according to the selected route, park access, current conditions and your group’s needs. Your confirmed map pin, arrival time, directions and preparation instructions will be sent after booking.

Guests must arrange reliable round-trip transportation. Uber and rideshare availability can be limited, and public bus travel can take a long time.
