About the Private Hike

Experience the beauty of the Kīlauea Iki area with your own private guide on an approximately 4.5-mile moderate hike through one of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park’s most distinctive volcanic landscapes.

Private hikes welcome guests of all ages, but every participant must be able to complete the selected route safely.

Volcanic History and Landscape

Immerse yourself in the rich history of volcanic activity as you move through varied terrain shaped by Kīlauea.

When included in the selected route, you may cross hardened 1959 Kīlauea Iki lava-lake terrain and experience native rainforest while your guide explains the geology, ecology and eruption history.

Lava-Tube Access

Lava-tube access may be included when the selected route, park access and current conditions allow. A lava-tube visit is not guaranteed.

Private Pace and Flexibility

Your guide can adjust the pace and interpretation to your group’s interests and ability.

Routes and stops may change because of weather, volcanic activity, volcanic gas, air quality, park closures, trail conditions or safety.

The standard private rate includes up to eight guests. Larger private groups may be accommodated by advance request for an additional charge.

Meeting and Transportation

This private hike commonly begins near the Kīlauea Iki Overlook. However, this is not a fixed or guaranteed meeting point.

Your final meeting location may change according to the selected route, park access and current conditions. The confirmed map pin, arrival time and directions will be sent after booking.

Guests must arrange reliable round-trip transportation. Uber and rideshare availability can be limited, and public bus travel can take a long time.
