About the Private Experience

Experience the beauty of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park with your own private guide on a personalized three-hour hiking experience.

This option is ideal for couples, families, photographers and private groups who value flexible pacing, personal attention and interpretation tailored to their interests.

Private hikes welcome guests of all ages, but every participant must be able to complete the selected route safely.

What You May Experience

Explore approximately 3 to 4 miles, often less depending on the selected route and current conditions.

Your hike may include steam features, native rainforest, volcanic terrain and scenic viewpoints when accessible, while your guide shares the park’s history, ecology, geology and volcanology.

Flexible Private Pace

Your guide can adjust the pace and interpretation to your group while selecting a route appropriate for current weather, volcanic activity, air quality, park access, trail conditions and safety.

The standard private rate includes up to eight guests. Larger private groups may be accommodated by advance request for an additional charge.

Active Lava and Specific Features

Specific routes and volcanic features may vary. Active lava viewing is never guaranteed.

Meeting and Transportation

This experience commonly begins near the Kīlauea Welcome Center at Kīlauea Military Camp. However, it is not a fixed or guaranteed meeting point.

The final location may change according to the selected route, park access, current conditions and your private group’s needs. Your confirmed map pin, arrival time, directions and preparation instructions will be sent after booking.

Guests must arrange reliable round-trip transportation. Uber and rideshare availability can be limited, and public bus travel can take a long time.
