About the Hike

Experience the beauty of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park on a three-hour guided hike designed for visitors who want an approachable introduction to the park.

Explore approximately 3 to 4 miles, often less depending on the selected route and current conditions, with opportunities to experience volcanic terrain, native rainforest, steam features and scenic viewpoints when accessible.

Our guides bring wilderness experience, strong interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for nature and education. Your guide will share the park’s history, ecology, geology, volcanology and eruption history in a clear and engaging way.

Small Groups and Gear

We take care of the hiking logistics and provide backpacks, trekking poles, rain jackets and light snacks.

Shared tours are limited to a maximum of 10 guests. When more than eight guests from unrelated parties are participating, a second guide is added.

Flexible Route and Active Lava

Routes and stops are selected according to current park access, weather, volcanic activity, air quality, trail conditions, safety and group ability. The exact experience can change from day to day.

Active lava viewing and access to specific volcanic features are never guaranteed.

Sustainability

Our tours place a strong emphasis on sustainability and follow Leave No Trace principles. We want guests to enjoy a meaningful connection with the park while helping protect its landscapes and ecosystems.

Meeting and Transportation

This hike commonly begins near the Kīlauea Welcome Center at Kīlauea Military Camp. However, this is not a guaranteed or fixed meeting point. The final meeting location may change according to the selected route, park access and current conditions.

Your confirmed map pin, arrival time, directions and preparation instructions will be sent after booking. Always follow the final instructions provided for your reservation.

Hotel pickup and guest transportation are not provided. Guests must arrange reliable round-trip transportation.

Uber and other rideshare availability can be limited in and around the park, and public bus travel can take a long time.

Do not rely on rideshare or the bus unless both arrival and return transportation have been confirmed in advance
