Enriched Air NITROX Certification
Increase your bottom times, reduce surface intervals, and reduce risks of decompression sickness.
What to Expect
The PADI Enriched Air NITROX certification offered at Seasport Divers can be conducted as an independent course or as part of your diving experience. Nitrox offers tremendous benefits, especially for recreational divers looking to extend their underwater experience, enhance their access to specialized dive opportunities previously unavailable to you and increase safety. Adding your
Why should you get NITROX Certified
-
Longer Bottom Time
Nitrox contains a higher concentration of oxygen (typically 28-36%) and less nitrogen compared to standard air cylindars (21% Oxygen, 79% Nitrogen). This allows you to extend your no-decompression limits (NDLs), meaning you can stay at certain depths longer, reducing your risk of decompression sickness. This is especially useful for repetitive dives or dives in the 50-100 ft (15-30 meters) range. -
Shorter Surface Intervals
Since you absorb less nitrogen when diving with Nitrox, surface intervals between dives can be shorter, allowing you to get back in the water faster. This is beneficial if you’re on a dive trip where you will be doing more than 2 dives a day or are doing repetitive dives for multiple days. -
Less Fatigue
Many divers report feeling less fatigued after Nitrox dives compared to air dives. While this benefit is still debated in the scientific and technical diving community evidence does support a reduction in nitrogen saturation in the body does have an affect on both the body and mind. The overall consensus among the professional diving community is that diving EAN, can reduce fatigue, lethargy, headaches, and improve stamina. -
Increased Safety Margins
Even if you don’t plan to extend your bottom time, using Nitrox can increase your safety margin by reducing nitrogen absorption, Nitrogen "supersaturation" and reduce your risk of decompression sickness. -
Access to More Dive Opportunities
Many dive resorts, liveaboards, and advanced charters (which are typically the best dives on the planet) require divers to be Enriched Air Nitrox (EAN) certified. EAN is also a necessary entry point for aspiring specialty divers and is a prerequisite certification for many other specialties.
Getting your PADI Nitrox certification enhances your diving experience, safety, opportunities, and reputability in the diving community, making it once of the best investments a diver can make, even if you only plan to dive a few times a year.
