The Hanalei area offers a beautiful and relaxing way to explore Kaua‘i’s North Shore at your own pace. Calm waterways, scenic mountain views, taro fields, and Hanalei Bay make this a memorable self-guided island adventure for beginners and experienced paddlers alike.

Recommended Adventure Flow

  1. Check in at The Pineapple Store to receive equipment, self-guided maps, and setup assistance.
  2. Secure your kayak using the included soft top racks with help from staff.
  3. Drive toward Kaua‘i’s North Shore and Hanalei area.
  4. Launch from approved public access areas recommended by staff based on current weather, river, and ocean conditions.
  5. Explore calm waterways, scenic river sections, Hanalei Bay, and surrounding North Shore scenery at your own pace.
  6. Return equipment to The Pineapple Store by your scheduled return time.

What To Expect

  • Calm and scenic paddling conditions are common during good weather.
  • Routes may include views of Hanalei Bridge, mountain landscapes, taro fields, and Hanalei Bay.
  • Conditions can vary depending on rain, river flow, surf, and ocean conditions.
  • Beginner-friendly launch recommendations will be provided when conditions allow.

Launch recommendations are based on daily weather and water conditions and may vary for safety reasons. Pineapple Kayaks Kaua‘i does not operate guided tours or private launch facilities on the North Shore. Guests are responsible for following all local regulations, safety guidelines, and public access rules during their self-guided adventure.

Restrictions

  • Secret Falls access is available Monday–Friday only.
  • Guests must be at least 18 years old to rent and transport kayaks.
  • Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
  • Triple kayaks are limited to 2 adults and 1 small child.
  • Maximum weight limits apply for safety and equipment protection.
  • Guests must follow all river safety guidelines and designated paddling routes.
  • Kayaks may only be used in approved areas recommended by Pineapple Kayaks Kaua‘i.
  • Rentals are weather dependent and may be adjusted or canceled due to unsafe conditions.
  • Guests are responsible for any lost or damaged equipment beyond normal wear and tear.
  • Alcohol and drug use before or during kayaking is strictly prohibited.
  • All rentals must be returned by the scheduled return time unless otherwise approved.
