Imu (Underground Oven) Demonstration
Learn how a Hawaiian underground oven is prepared!
What to Expect
You’re invited to experience one of Hawaiʻi’s most treasured traditions. Join us for a family-friendly imu (underground oven) demonstration led by Men of Paʻa, a local nonprofit dedicated to preserving Hawaiian culture. Their team will prepare the imu and narrate each step—from heating the pōhaku (stones) to layering banana and ti leaves—so everyone can learn and watch how the luau Kalua Pig is prepared.
It’s a rare opportunity to see this time-honored process up close and hear about its cultural significance.
