What to Expect

Hilo’s Remote Reef Ridge 2-Tank Boat Dive

About the Dive

Join our expert local dive pros for an unforgettable two-tank boat adventure exploring some of Hilo’s most remote and pristine reef sites. This experience is designed for certified divers with 15 or more logged dives who are ready to venture beyond the bay and discover the wild beauty of East Hawaiʻi’s underwater world.
(If it has been more than two years since your last dive, please contact us to schedule a refresher course before booking.)

Departing from Hilo Harbor, we’ll travel north along the scenic Hamakua Coast to reach dive sites only accessible by boat. Along the way, take in views of cascading waterfalls, Mauna Kea’s slopes, and remnants of historic sugar plantations from the early 1900s. On calm days, spinner dolphins sometimes play in our wake, adding to the magic of the journey.

Below the surface, divers are treated to an incredible display of volcanic terrain—pinnacles, lava shelves, swim-throughs, and coral-covered canyons that showcase the raw beauty of Hawaiʻi’s underwater landscape. The reefs here are alive with vibrant coral, endemic Hawaiian fish species, and the occasional sea turtle gliding through the current.

During the winter months, you may even spot breaching humpback whales in the distance or snow dusting Mauna Kea’s summit—an unforgettable sight from sea level.
