Scents of Nature
2.5 Hours • Ages 16+
What to Expect
In a private garden sanctuary nestled against the dramatic Koʻolau mountains on Oʻahu's Windward side, experience the deeply restorative therapy of the forest. Research shows that spending intentional time in the outdoors improves your health and, across centuries and cultures, aromatherapy has been used to further healing and pleasure.
Hawai'i's first and most experienced certified forest therapy guide Phyllis (Forest Bathing Hawaiʻi) will offer a series of sensory-based "invitations" designed to help you reconnect with nature, with others, and with yourself. You'll get to wander through the unique tropical flora in the garden, take in its fragrances, and share with others in your small group.
Continue your aromatic adventure with Alexandra Avery, holistic health educator and owner of The Scent Atelier. You’ll learn about the healing properties of some of the plants around us and how natural aromas affect the senses. Then, she'll support you in constructing (from an array of essential oils) a personal perfume to take home. Each participant will also receive a copy of Alexandra’s book Aromatherapy and You.
After the session, you're welcome to visit the art galleries on the grounds. You'll find there paintings and giclees by Hiroshi Tagami and Michael Powell, ceramics, sculpture, photography, jewelry, and more by local artists.
