What to Expect

Most people never see a reef at night. That's their loss.

When the sun sets and the light fades, Kona's reef doesn't go to sleep — it wakes up. Lobsters emerge from the rocks. Eels hunt in the open. Octopus move across the coral in slow, deliberate pulses. Sleeping fish hover motionless in the water column. The characters you saw on your daytime dive have vanished, and an entirely different cast has taken the stage.

The Twilight & Night Reef Expedition is designed around this transformation. We head out in the late afternoon for your first tank — a twilight dive on the living reef, timed so you're in the water as the light begins to drop and the day-shift creatures head for cover. Then, after a surface interval on the boat as the sky goes full dark, we go back down for the night dive: the same reef, an entirely different world.

Two tanks. Two completely different experiences. One evening.

This is advanced diving at its most rewarding — an experience that separates the divers who've seen Kona from the divers who truly know it.
