3/4 Day Inshore
Tarpon, permit, mangrove snapper, jack & more
What to Expect
Two extra hours changes what a backcountry trip can be. Instead of picking the closest productive spot and staying put, we can run a real game plan — start on one stage of the tide, move as the water turns, and hit the spots that only fish for a short window each day. The Lower Keys backcountry stretches for miles behind the island chain, from mangrove-lined creeks and basins to hard bottom, channel edges, and structure sitting in six feet of gin-clear water. Six hours lets us cover it properly.
That extra range pays off in variety. Mangrove and mutton snapper are the bread and butter, but a longer trip opens the door to the fish that require patience: tarpon in the shallows, permit tailing on a flat, cobia shadowing a ray, a Goliath grouper parked under structure that will test both your drag and your back. Add jack crevalle, yellow jacks, barracuda, sharks, and red grouper to the mix and you've got a day where nobody is standing around waiting for a bite. Everything legal you want to keep gets cleaned, filleted, and bagged at the dock.
The Pathfinder 2600 HPS is built for exactly this kind of fishing — shallow enough to get where the fish live, comfortable enough that six hours doesn't feel long, and quiet on the trolling motor when we need to sneak up on something. Light spinning tackle is the default, and Captain Brooks is glad to set you up with fly gear if that's your thing. Licenses, live bait, lures, tackle, and ice are all included for up to five anglers. If you're deciding between four hours and eight, this is the trip that splits the difference without feeling rushed.
