About
Forever Explorers is a program that is especially designed for the young-at-heart lifelong learners who want to explore their coastal environment with certified naturalists.
During our Forever Explorers boat excursions, we plan to explore the roles of salt marshes, mudflats and various saltwater plants and animals in our ecosystem by visiting different islands on MDC’s Discovery boat. We will get off the boat to explore marshes and sandbars and use a seine net to identify different species.
Fall 2026 Schedule
Wednesday, October 14 | 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Explorers will board MDC’s Discovery boat and travel to a nearby island accompanied by local artist Cathy Berse, who will guide us in the technique of Plein Air painting outdoors for artistic creations of flora and fauna, or the Ponce de Leon Lighthouse. No art experience needed, only your sense of sense of adventure! All art materials and a small snack are provided. Bring your camp chair.
What to Bring
Don’t forget to wear closed-toe water shoes and bring insect repellent, sunscreen, water and snacks, hat, sunglasses, camera/phone, binoculars, hand wipes, etc. The Discovery boat does have an emergency marine head (toilet) onboard.
