Keewaydin Island Shelling, Dolphin and Beach Experience
Leaves from Naples • all ages! • Great for couples! • Public and Private, up to 26 guests.
What to Expect
Million-dollar mansions, a mangrove river cruise, and eight miles of untouched beach. This is Keewaydin Island.
About
The moment you push off from Naples Bay Resort and Marina aboard one of our luxury tri-toons, Naples starts showing off. You'll cruise out through Naples Bay and down the Gordon River past some of the most valuable waterfront real estate in the country, estates that push toward $295 million, docks stacked with yachts, more wealth per mile than almost anywhere else in Florida.
Then the scenery flips entirely. We turn down the Big Marco River, and the mansions give way to a quiet, mangrove-lined channel that feels a world away from the homes you just passed. Ospreys and bald eagles work the treeline, roseate spoonbills wade the shallows, and dolphins are almost always somewhere nearby, frolicking and feeding through the calm water, going about their morning like they own the place. Because really, they do.
We pull up along the quiet bay side of the island, and a short walk across a sandy path is all that stands between you and the reveal: eight uninterrupted miles of sugar-white sand stretching out ahead, one of the last truly undeveloped beaches on this whole coast. You can see for miles in either direction without spotting a single building. From there, the day is yours: grab a shelling bag and start hunting, wade into a sandbar built for swimming, or bring your own snorkel gear and explore the clear water just offshore.
Southwest Florida is one of the richest shelling coastlines anywhere, home to more than 300 species, and Keewaydin's long, quiet stretch of sand is one of the best places on the coast to find them. You'll walk away with olives, zigzag scallops, banded tulips, lightning whelks, murex, and alphabet cones in hand, and always, somewhere in the back of your mind, the hope of finding a Junonia. You don't find a Junonia, it finds you, and we'll make sure you know exactly what one looks like, just in case today's the day.
Your captain and mates are naturalists at heart, and they'll walk you through every shell, bird, and dolphin you spot along the way, so the whole trip doubles as an easy, unhurried education without ever feeling like one. This is our favorite trip for young kids especially, calm water the whole way out, a beach big enough to run wild on, and a sandbar shallow enough for even the littlest ones to wade right in.
Book the boat privately and take your pick: our luxury tri-toon for smaller groups up to 6, or the 26-passenger Tiki boat, complete with an onboard bathroom, for bigger groups who want the whole boat (and the whole beach) to themselves. Shared options are also available if you'd rather join a smaller crew. Either way, you're on the water with USCG Master Captains who've spent years learning exactly which mansion belongs to who, where the dolphins feed, and where the tide leaves the best shells behind.
Why Sand Dollar Shelling and Boat Tours
We've been doing this long enough that the Travel Channel and the New York Times took notice, and so did the concierge desks at the best resorts in Marco Island and Naples. But our guests say it better than we ever could: 4.9 stars and 1,500+ reviews across Google and Tripadvisor. More than a few families have told us it was the single best three hours of their entire Florida vacation, and plenty come back year after year to do it again.
We also keep it small on purpose. You won't find us stacking guests onto a stadium-sized pontoon or running a script over a loudspeaker. It's a real captain, a boatload of new friends, and enough room to actually enjoy the ride, whether you're cruising past the mansions, watching the dolphins, or digging for shells.
