What to Expect
Prerequisites:
- Must hold an SSI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, or Open Water Instructor certification.
- Specific prerequisites for each specialty may apply. Inquire for additional information.
Becoming an SSI Specialty Instructor is easy. Continue your diving education as an instructor by enrolling in a Specialty Instructor Seminar for each of the diving specialties you would like to teach.
As an SSI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, or Open Water Instructor, you’re able to independently teach key SSI programs. Now it is time to expand your ability to teach by adding additional Specialty Instructor certifications making you more marketable as an instructor and increasing your earning potential.
As an SSI Divemaster you may enroll in the following Specialty Instructor courses:
- Coral Identification
- Fish Identification
- Manta and Ray Ecology
- Marine Invertebrate Ecology
- Marine Ecology
- Marine Mammal Ecology
- Nudibranch Ecology
- Sea Turtle Ecology
- Shark Ecology
- React Right (CPR/1st Aide/AED/Oxygen Administration)
As an SSI Assistant Instructor you may enroll any of the courses listed above as well as the following Specialty Instructor courses:
- Boat Diving
- Computer Diving
- Equipment Techniques
- Navigation
- Perfect Buoyancy
- Photo and Video
As an SSI Open Water Instructor you may enroll any of the courses listed above as well as the following Specialty Instructor courses:
- Decompression Diving
- Deep Diving
- Gas Blender
- Independent Diving
- Night & Limited Visibility Diving
- Search and Recovery
- Waves, Tides, and Currents (Drift Diving)
- Wreck Diving
- Advanced Wreck Diving

Cancellation Policy
Cancellation and Reschedule Policy
nDue to limited availability, no refund will be issued for cancellations made less than 7 days prior to the course start date. For cancellations made greater than 7 days prior to the course start date, a 50% refund may be issued for the course. Dive courses may be rescheduled to a future date at no cost (subject to boat trip and instructor availability). In the event of inclement weather, alternate open water training sites may be used for student training in leu of Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary. Any courses not rescheduled and completed with a year of the original booking date are subject to cancellation without refund.
nAll boat trips are weather dependent. We take the safety and satisfaction of our customers very seriously and will not go out in conditions we deem unsafe or borderline. Due to the inability to predict the weather conditions ahead of time (trust us, we would if we could!) there is never a guarantee that trips will be available. In order to cover fuel and crew costs, there is a minimum number of customers required per trip.
