What to Expect
Prerequisites:
- Must hold an SSI Assistant Instructor certification.
- 100 Logged dives (verified via dive log at the beginning of the course).
To join our Assistant Instructor to Open Water Instructor upgrade course, you must hold an SSI Assistant Instructor certification. This comprehensive program is part of SSI’s 2-Step Instructor Training Approach. It begins with the 6 day Instructor Training Course completion, supported by immersive digital learning. After successfully completing the ITC, you will immediately attend the 2 day Instructor Evaluation (IE) to become an SSI Open Water Instructor.
As a certified instructor, you’ll be able to independently teach key SSI programs such as Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, Enriched Air Nitrox, Diver Stress & Rescue, and Dive Guide.
Need more time or want to gain hands-on experience before becoming a full instructor? You can take the Assistant Instructor portion as a standalone step. This allows you to assist with real student courses, build valuable teaching experience, and then complete the Instructor Evaluation at your own pace.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellation and Reschedule Policy
nDue to limited availability, no refund will be issued for cancellations made less than 7 days prior to the course start date. For cancellations made greater than 7 days prior to the course start date, a 50% refund may be issued for the course. Dive courses may be rescheduled to a future date at no cost (subject to boat trip and instructor availability). In the event of inclement weather, alternate open water training sites may be used for student training in leu of Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary. Any courses not rescheduled and completed with a year of the original booking date are subject to cancellation without refund.
nAll boat trips are weather dependent. We take the safety and satisfaction of our customers very seriously and will not go out in conditions we deem unsafe or borderline. Due to the inability to predict the weather conditions ahead of time (trust us, we would if we could!) there is never a guarantee that trips will be available. In order to cover fuel and crew costs, there is a minimum number of customers required per trip.
Operated by
