What to Expect
Prerequisites:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must hold a Divemaster (or comparable) certification from a recognized training agency.
- Must hold Enriched Air Nitrox (or comparable) certifications from a recognized training agency.
- 75 Logged dives (verified via dive log at the beginning of the course).
- Certified as an Open Water Diver (or comparable) or higher for at least 6 months prior to this course.
To become an SSI Assistant Instructor you must be a certified Divemaster or hold an equivalent qualification. This comprehensive program is the first part of SSI’s 2-Step Instructor Training Approach.
Would like more time or want to gain hands-on experience before becoming a full instructor? You can take the Assistant Instructor as a standalone course. This allows you to assist with real student courses, build valuable teaching experience, and then complete the Instructor Training Course and Instructor Evaluation at your own pace.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellation and Reschedule Policy
nDue to limited availability, no refund will be issued for cancellations made less than 7 days prior to the course start date. For cancellations made greater than 7 days prior to the course start date, a 50% refund may be issued for the course. Dive courses may be rescheduled to a future date at no cost (subject to boat trip and instructor availability). In the event of inclement weather, alternate open water training sites may be used for student training in leu of Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary. Any courses not rescheduled and completed with a year of the original booking date are subject to cancellation without refund.
nAll boat trips are weather dependent. We take the safety and satisfaction of our customers very seriously and will not go out in conditions we deem unsafe or borderline. Due to the inability to predict the weather conditions ahead of time (trust us, we would if we could!) there is never a guarantee that trips will be available. In order to cover fuel and crew costs, there is a minimum number of customers required per trip.
