Porcupine Experience

The African crested porcupine is one of the largest porcupine species in the world, known for its striking black-and-white quills and impressive crest. Despite its bold appearance, this nocturnal animal is generally calm and prefers to avoid confrontation.

When threatened, it may rattle its hollow quills to create a warning sound and deter predators. These quills are not thrown but can detach easily as a natural defense. African crested porcupines are excellent diggers and spend much of their time foraging for roots, bulbs, fruit, and bark.

Intelligent and curious, they play an important role in their environment by helping to aerate soil and disperse seeds. Their unique look and gentle nature make them a fascinating animal to learn about and observe up close.
