When air temps are in the 70s or warmer, visibility can sometimes be less than six feet, especially after several mild days. Once Gulf waters rise above about 68 degrees, many of the migratory manatees disperse, and we primarily see the resident manatees that live here year-round.

Also, the time of year alone doesn’t guarantee large numbers. Cold fronts are what push big aggregations into the springs. When temperatures drop, manatees stack up in the 72-degree spring water — when it’s mild, they spread back out.
