Paddle the Entire Silver River

Experience one of Florida’s most unforgettable kayaking adventures as you launch from beautiful Silver Springs State Park and journey downstream along the crystal-clear Silver River to Ray Wayside Park.

From the moment you enter the water, you’ll understand why the Silver River is so special. Beneath your kayak, remarkably clear spring water gives you a window into an underwater world filled with fish, aquatic vegetation, submerged trees and natural spring features. Above the water, the river is surrounded by lush, undeveloped Florida wilderness.

As you make your way downstream, keep your eyes open for the incredible wildlife that calls the Silver River home. Turtles sun themselves on fallen logs, anhingas and other waterbirds perch along the shoreline, and alligators can often be spotted resting quietly along the banks. Lucky paddlers may also encounter manatees, playful river otters or Silver Springs’ famous wild rhesus monkeys swinging through the trees along the river.

The gentle current carries you downstream, making this a relaxing adventure where you can slow down, take pictures and simply enjoy the scenery. As you travel farther from the headspring, the surroundings become increasingly peaceful and wild, giving you the feeling that you’ve left civilization behind and entered old Florida.

The full downstream journey is approximately five miles and typically takes around three to four hours at a comfortable sightseeing pace. At the end of your adventure, you’ll arrive at Ray Wayside Park near the meeting point of the Silver and Ocklawaha rivers.
