What to Expect
America’s Great Loop: East Coast Passage
A Seamanship Expedition from the Helm
This is your invitation to take the helm — not as a passenger, but as an active mariner in training — as we sail north along the storied U.S. East Coast, tracing part of America’s Great Loop aboard a fully equipped, ocean-ready vessel.
This leg is about more than movement. It’s about mastery.
You won’t be watching. You’ll be doing.
Each day at sea is an opportunity to build real-world seamanship — not in a classroom, but through hands-on experience under the guidance of a captain with over 35 years on the water.
You’ll take the wheel, trim the sails, set anchor, stand night watch, and learn to make judgment calls that only come from time underway. This is an immersive, skills-based voyage, ideal for those working toward their U.S. Coast Guard OUPV or Master’s license, or simply seeking the confidence to command their own vessel.
Core skills you’ll develop include:
- Docking, anchoring, and close-quarters handling in diverse coastal conditions
- Weather routing and coastal passage planning
- Navigation under sail and power — day and night
- Galley management and provisioning underway
- Systems checks, engine monitoring, and onboard troubleshooting
- Communication, safety protocols, and watch rotation
Customize your approach:
Prefer full culinary service? Bring a private chef. Want to build sea-kitchen confidence? Step into the galley and learn to cook in motion.
On more challenging legs, a second captain may join the crew, offering additional instruction, perspective, and mentorship.
This voyage earns you more than skills — it earns you credit.
Every day underway counts toward your documented sea time, putting you one step closer to official credentials and opening doors to personal and professional maritime opportunities.
A Moving Classroom. A Real Command. A Voyage Like No Other.
The East Coast is your proving ground. The helm is waiting.
